Our Heritage
For over fifty years, Gateway Metal Industries has done one thing — made containers that hold up. To pressure. To time. To the relentless demands of industry. This is how we got here.
The Beginning
In 1975, in a modest workshop tucked inside Mumbai's Lower Parel — then the beating industrial heart of Maharashtra — Ismail Sulemanji Patrawala set up a bench, a press, and a belief that would outlast generations. The belief that a container is never just a container. It is a promise: that what is inside will arrive exactly as it left.
"The tin doesn't carry the product. It carries the maker's reputation."
That philosophy was not a slogan. It shaped every decision — the gauge of tinplate chosen, the tightness of a seam, the precision of a lid. In an era when cutting corners was commonplace, Gateway became known as the manufacturer that simply refused to.
Word spread quietly, the way it does when quality speaks for itself. Spice traders. Chemical manufacturers. Pharmaceutical distributors. Each came looking for a tin that would not fail them. Each left with a long-term partner.
Five Decades
Every milestone in our history reflects the same discipline — grow without compromising the quality that got us here in the first place.
Ismail Sulemanji Patrawala establishes Gateway Metal Industries in Lower Parel, Mumbai. The first products: bespoke tin containers for local spice and food colouring merchants who demand airtight quality on a budget that punishes failure.
The reputation for zero-defect seams attracts India's growing industrial chemicals sector. Gateway begins producing heavy-duty tins for dyes, adhesives, and solvents — products that punish poor packaging mercilessly. Every unit holds.
India's FMCG boom creates demand for high-volume, branded packaging. Gateway invests in new tooling and takes on its first national-scale contracts — producing millions of cookie tins, curry powder boxes, and specialty containers per year without a single compromise in tolerance.
Anticipating the next decade of growth, Gateway relocates to a purpose-built facility in Taloja, Maharashtra. Automated production lines, expanded tooling capacity, and a modern quality-assurance lab allow us to serve global supply chains while maintaining the handcrafted precision our clients have always depended on.
Gateway Metal Industries stands as one of India's premier tin packaging manufacturers — serving clients across food, pharma, FMCG, and industrial sectors, shipping worldwide. The workshop in Lower Parel is gone. The standard it set is not.
What We Stand For
Fifty years of business teaches you what actually matters. For us, it has always come down to three things. We have never found a reason to add a fourth.
Every container that leaves our facility has passed the same rigorous seam, leak, and dimensional checks we set in 1975. Volume has grown. The standard has not moved an inch.
Our clients build production schedules around our delivery commitments. That trust is sacred. We have never shipped a late order without first warning the client — and we intend to keep it that way.
We do not think in transactions. We think in relationships. The most important measure of our success is not the volume we ship — it is how many clients have been with us for a decade or more.
