About Gateway
Fifty years of making tins. Still a family business.
Gateway Metal Industries started in 1975 as a small workshop in Lower Parel, Mumbai, making tin containers for local spice merchants.
Ismail Sulemanji Patrawala set it up with one idea that still runs the place: a tin carries more than the product inside it. If a seam splits or a lid won’t hold, it’s the brand on the label that takes the hit.
Over the years the customers changed, from spice traders to paint and adhesive makers, dye and chemical companies and FMCG brands, and the range grew with them. In 2009 production moved to larger works in Taloja MIDC, Navi Mumbai, where every Gateway tin is made today.

How we got here.
Founded in Lower Parel
A workshop in Mumbai’s mill district. The first tins go to spice and food-colour merchants.
Into industrial tins
Tins for dyes, adhesives and solvents, where a weak seam is not an option.
Bigger runs
Larger orders of cookie tins, curry powder boxes and specialty containers for FMCG brands.
Move to Taloja
Production moves to larger works at A87, MIDC Taloja, Navi Mumbai.
19 standard sizes
Round, square and rectangular tins from 50 ml to 1 kg, plus custom sizes to order.

How we work
Three things we hold to.
Tins that hold
Seams, lids and finish are what we check before a tin leaves Taloja. That standard was set in 1975 and it hasn’t moved.
Straight answers
If a size, quantity or date isn’t workable, we tell you at the quote stage, not after the order is placed.
Long relationships
Most of our work is repeat orders. We’d rather keep a customer for years than win a single big run.
